Born in Shenyang, China in 1982, Lang Lang began his piano studies at the age of 3. He gave his first public recital at the age of 5 after winning first prize in the Shenyang Piano Competition and won first prize in the same competition at 7 years old. Then he has won first prize in the Fifth national Xinghai Cup Piano Competition at 9, first prize and “Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award” in the Fourth International Young Pianists Competition in Germany at 11, first prize in the Second Tchaikovsky International Young Musicians Competition in Japan at 13. He entered the Central Music Conservatory in Beijing at 9 and was admitted to the famous Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia to study with the renowned Piano Master, Gary Graffman at the age of 14. He signed up with IMG --- the most famous artist management company in the world only 3 months after he became the student of Curtis Institute and became the youngest contracted artist of the company.

Acclaimed in the world’s major concert halls, Lang Lang has established himself as the leading role in the field of classical music of the contemporary world. He is the first and only young pianist in the world at present to be engaged by all “Big Five” American Orchestras (New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony and Cleveland Orchestra), Berliner Philharmoniker and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.. Besides, he has cooperated with almost world’s important Orchestras and famous Conductors. He has regularly held recitals in in the major concert halls per year in various countries and also often performs with Orchestras and Conductors from Europe, America and Asia around the world.

Wherever he was playing, most of his concerts has been broadcasted lively nationwide and even worldwide. As the focal person, he has been interviewed by “New York Times”, “Wall Street”, “Entertainment Weeks” and specially invited by CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, BBC, CCTV as the special guest in their programs. In addition, he was selected to be a “Twenty Young People who will Change the World” by the famous magazine “Teenpeople” and is the only artist among them.

In recognition of his great success, he was appointed as UN Goodwill Ambassador and becomes the youngest one since it’s established. Moreover, he is the first winner of the Steinway Gold Award, the first recipient of the Leonard Bernstein Award, the Image Ambassadors of ROLEX and AUDI and youngest pianist who has given the Maestro Class in the history of Juliard School.

Lang Lang has released more than 7 records, including CD, SACD, DVD of Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto and the Paganini Rhapsody with Valery Gergiey, and album entitled Memory featuring works by Mozart, Chopin, Schumann, and liszt. All of his album are listed on the bestsellers. His Carnegie hall Recital album enters the German pop charts and others are always entering that of Music.
